by John Stevens

Going through my life
Looking for something different.
Going through the motions
Out of focus… badly bent.

Trying hard to be
someone else, you see
Not facing my demons
Not loving my self.
Searching, searching
with “ME” on the shelf.

Dark, invisible bars
always holding me back.
They’re of my own making.
There seldom is a lack.

If I don’t soon stand
on my own two feet
Where will I end?
What end will I meet?
Will I be gone?

( the rest of the story

You picked me up
from the muck I was in.
You cleaned me up
I’m forgiven within.
You picked up the pieces
of my shattered life.
You put me together
without pain or strife.

I’m going, going, still going.
I’m going, going, still growing.
I’m going, going, gone,
To my Father side.
Where I reside.

“I ran away from my troubles,
then I look into a mirror and
found them again”

JT. I am honored this has touched you so deeply. Sometimes I write and think it is only for me… my past/or present. We all travel the same road but the road has many side excursions, some good some bad. I hope the things you are going through smooth out soon and peace resides in your life.

A wonderful reflective, insightful write, John. Feelings so well expressed and accepted, with a desire to go on regardless of what life may throw your way. Strength gained from your deep faith and belief in God, transferred from your beautiful spirit to your mind. A powerful and empowering write which flows effortlessly from your very warm heart through your poetic pen. Excellent inking John! Tfs………..

It is not whether we are GONE or not, it is where are we going. Yes it came rather easily and it was fun. Thanks Mari. I always appreciate your comments.

These are all such real feelings. I’ve felt lost so many times, usually only to find out I’m the one who ran away. Wonderful poem, sir.

So happy you like it. I wrote it sitting in the mall yesterday… the same chair I wrote “Forgiven”. I may have to see if I can bring that chair home. (just kidding) Yes, it is not God who goes away, it is us. I love to see the change in people, the softening of the eyes over time, the beauty and glow of the face. Even when the effects of life have taken its toll, the face picks up a softness. I admire a man or woman who can change from years of wrong side.

I could tell the emotion in the beginning & middle, that was really cool, and thought it is well written also :)

Thanks Chelsea. The last part is redemption.

Yes! Grace and Mercy… two of my favorite words you will find in many of the pieces I have written.
    Thanks for reading John
