I bow quietly before You Lord,
With heaviness on my heart.
You know my need oh Lord, this hour,
Before I even start

I give You my plea on bended knee,
I trust your answers to be.
That which I need and not desire,
You know what’s best for me.
———————————–
I bow quietly before You Lord,
With thankfulness in my heart.
For the answers You’ve given me,
Before I even start.

I give to You my life oh Lord,
As I abide in thee.
Your grace and mercy I receive,
Your strength and life in me.
———————————–
I bow quietly before You Lord,
With gladness in my heart.
Your love fills me with such Joy,
Before I even start.

I give to You my praise oh Lord,
For the peace You’ve set in me.
As I listen to Your will for me,
For the Answer that’s to be.

(chorus)
Touch my heart once again
Heal my spirit from above.
Touch my life once again
Fill me with Your love.

John, you may have written this during a very dark time and I am sure it is something one needs to reach for when they are down. I would have to go so far as to say that this is something we all need to reach for even when our skies are not gray. Absolutely beautiful, my friend. Good to read you once again.

You are right about the dark times. Six months before “Dopeless Hope Addict” was written. The time my daughter was in detention was a time I could sleep at night knowing she was safe and there would not be a knock on the door in the middle of the night. I dreaded that knock.

I dwell in the second and third verse now most of the time. A good friend said it well, “something we all need to reach for even when our skies are not gray.” I treasure knowing you my Georgia Peach.

I treasure knowing you too :)

The humble, truly effective prayer of a wise and loving man.
Because he so obviously desires to commune with God, John Stevens strikes me as someone who can be trusted.
Thanks, John, for just being you.

Misted up a bit on that Frank. You can be stripped of most everything but no one can take your integrity.

Where I worked for 40 years people would show up at my door and ask if they could talk to me. The door would close and they would unload, generally in me listening they would discover the answer. I was the resident priest even though I am not Catholic. It was an honor.

Does not surprise me in the least, John.
Congratulations that you have made your life count for something.
May God heal, protect and bless you and your loved ones.

    Thanks Frank.

Reading your poems are akin to saying prayers– sometimes indeed when it seems like there is nothing to hold on to, it really helps to realize that we can draw our strength from God…. thank you for sharing — I think that indeed someone would benefit so much from reading your poems…

This was written as a song that would sing in my heart often back when it was written. Thank you for a wonderful comment raen.

Very real way to feel good about yourself. Letting go and letting God. I could prosper from a stronger connection much of the time myself.
